Stock Market Today LIVE Updates: Indian frontline indices S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty extended gains after starting Monday on a cautious note. Buying in bank & financial services, FMCG and auto stocks lifted the mood of the markets. The 30-stock Sensex was trading at 61,634.55, up 296.74 points or 0.48 points while the broader market Nifty50 was trading at 18,349.50, up 80.50 points or 0.44 per cent. Banking gauge Nifty Bank was trading 12 points or 0.03 per cent higher at 43,231.45.
In the 50-stock Nifty50, 34 stocks advanced with Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto and HDFC Life as top five gainers while ONGC, BPCL, Infosys, Tata Motors and Sun Pharmaceuticals as top losers.
Singapore-based SGX Nifty futures were trading at 18,395, up 77 points or 0.42 per cent while Dow 30 futures were trading at 32,888.50, up 32 points or 0.10 per cent.
Major Asian benchmark indices were trading mix. Nikkei 225 was at 27,221.90, down 305.23 points or 1.11 per cent, China’s Shanghai Composite was trading at 3,115.31, down 52.55 points 1.66 per cent. Meanwhile, Hang Seng was trading at 19,362.67, lower by 88 points or 0.45 per cent.
Rupee fells 2 paise to 82.77 against US dollar in early trade. USDINR 22 December futures were trading at 82.7550 on the BSE and were down 4.25 paise or 0.05 per cent.
