September 2022 Highlights

This month’s report illustrates the downward pressure demand continues to have on global logistics, despite various supply chain disruptions. The market is softening with improvements in both load-to-truck ratios and rates.

  • The decline in outbound per-mile spot rates dropped more than the US average in August.
  • Dry van rates continued to decline in August while reefer rates held steady.
  • Primary Tender Acceptance rose – supporting a steady trend of increasing reefer and dry van capacity due to less demand.

Despite disruptions and weakened demand, shippers who primarily use routing guides with carrier-defined capacity have performed better than their peers on the following metrics: on-time performance compared to requested delivery date; less overspend to the Rate Index; fewer spot market moves; better routing guide compliance; less routing guide overspend.
