Newman, Edey Lead Purdue in Fan Day Intrasquad Scrimmage


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Brandon Newman and Zach Edey each scored 21 points to lead Purdue in its Fan Day intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at Mackey Arena.
 
The teams were divided into Gold and Black squads for three, 12-minute scrimmage sessions. Ethan Morton was the lone player to post a 3-0 record, while eight others went 2-1 on the afternoon.
 
The Boilermakers looked crisp on the offensive end, shooting 52-of-97 (.536) from the field and 18-of-40 (.450) from long distance. Purdue registered 38 assists against just 12 turnovers in the 36-minute scrimmage.
 
Newman and Edey were among seven players that scored in double figures, each with 21 points. Edey added a team-best 12 rebounds and three blocked shots while going 10-of-13 from the field, while Newman was 8-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from 3-point range while adding three rebounds and two steals.
 
Freshman Trey Kaufman-Renn tallied 15 points and nine rebounds while classmate Caleb Furst added 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
 
Jaden Ivey recorded an efficient 14 points with eight assists, two blocks and three rebounds, while Trevion Williams had 14 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Sasha Stefanovic tallied 14 points (4-of-8 from long distance) and four assists.
 
Purdue will next be in Mackey Arena for its lone exhibition game on Nov. 4, against the University of Indianapolis.
