Listen: Michelin awards Sacramento restaurant Localis with a coveted star

Sacramento now has its second Michelin-starred restaurant.

The international group, known by many as the gold-standard for food reviews, awarded The Kitchen as the city’s first a few years back. This week, Michelin also recognized Localis, a Midtown favorite that focuses on tasting menus featuring local, fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Localis’ chefs and owners have celebrated this week on social media.

“What this means for this amazing team is that we are on the right path,” the restaurant wrote on Instagram, promising that “nothing will change” in its approach, and that prices will not increase.

It could be increasingly difficult, however, to snag a reservation at Localis.

“In a year or so, you know, it’s going to be so impossible to get a reservation there,” Sacramento Bee food writer Benjy Egel told CapRadio this week.

Founded in 2015, Localis focuses on local, seasonal ingredients plated with artistry and elevated technique. The daily offering is a “prix fixe” tasting menu of either seven or 12 courses that runs around $150-200 per person. Owner and head chef Chris Barnum-Dann runs the restaurant with his wife, Jessica Dann, who is the general manager.

You’ll have to move fast to land one of the coveted reservations; the restaurant releases new dates and times every 60 days.
