Apartment at Manhattan’s Historic Pierre Hotel to List for $11.25 Million

A high-floor apartment in Manhattan’s historic landmark Pierre Hotel is coming on the market Wednesday for $11.25 million, Mansion Global has learned.

Located on the 27th floor of the 44-story tower, the corner residence has two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, a windowed dining room, a kitchen, and a large entertaining space with a wood-burning fireplace, according to the listing with Erin Boisson Aries of Douglas Elliman.

Designed in 1928 by Schultze and Weaver in a neo-Renaissance style on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 61st Street, The Pierre was bought by oil tycoon J. Paul Getty in 1938, who turned it into an apartment cooperative in 1959. The tower was designated a New York City landmark in 1981.

Following a $100 million renovation in 2005, the tower now offers around 189 luxury hotel rooms and 77 co-ops managed by Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces.

“This residence, one of the only two on the floor, has extraordinary views of Central Park and Manhattan’s most iconic skyline,” Ms. Aries said. “And with the five-star hotel services, it’s a perfect home for someone wanting to have a foothold in the city while maintaining a much more flexible lifestyle.”

Residence owners at The Pierre have full access to the hotel’s services, including a concierge, maid service, a spa and fitness center, a conference room, a beauty salon and a restaurant along with two bars, according to Ms. Aries.

The current owner purchased the apartment 10 years ago for an undisclosed amount and then undertook an extensive renovation by English decorator Anouska Hempel with custom millwork by David Lindley, including parquet floors, closets, book shelves, doors, paneling, boiserie and crown molding, Ms. Aries said.

She declined to discuss the seller, who couldn’t be identified in public records.
