The Bezos family has purchased not one, but two Miami beach houses for a total of $78 million.
Jackie and Mike Bezos purchased a $34 million waterfront property in the Coral Gables neighborhood last week, Mansion Global reported. At the same time, the couple also splashed out $44 million for the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home next door, which boasts 500-feet of ocean frontage, allowing for a veritable compound for the couple.
The seller was Manny Angelo Varas, a Miami-based builder and president of MV Construction Group. He purchased the 8,713-square-foot home in 2019 for just under $14 million, and renovated it to the tune of $5 million, he said.
“Every inch of [the home] is fit for a billionaire,” Mr. Varas said in an emailed statement. “We spared no expense, selecting the most exquisite, rare materials from roof to foundation and everywhere in between.”
Mr. and Ms. Bezos, the co-founders of the Washington state-based Bezos Family Foundation, bought the properties through two separate LLCs, one of which shares its address with the organization. Mr. Varas confirmed the sale of the $44 million. Representatives for the couple did not immediately return a request for comment.
The couple, who will use this home as a guest house, “paid almost double the price per square foot for this property than the one next door which shows an undeniable appreciation for the level of craftsmanship and design,” Mr. Varas continued.
Natural materials such as antique marble, French limestone and European elk wood have been used throughout the home, according to the listing. Interiors were helmed by Miami-based firm Briggs Solomon.
The home sits on a more than 2-acre plot, according to the listing. Amenities include a 20-foot by 40-foot swimming pool, a 3,000-bottle wine cellar, a 20-seat home theater that doubles as a conference room and a 12-car garage with a six-car lift.
Currently the second richest person in the world, Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chairman of Amazon, has a net worth of nearly $144 billion, according to Forbes. The tech titan bought a $165 million Los Angeles mansion, formerly owned by music mogul David Geffen, in one of the biggest deals of 2020.
