Honey Co-Founder’s $150 Million Los Angeles House is for Sale – DIRT

A big Los Angeles estate has catapulted onto the market with a $150 million asking price, a stunning $90 million more than the property fetched just two years ago. For that, one lucky billionaire buyer will receive an all-new, state-of-the-art mansion originally designed by South African architecture firm SAOTA and extensively customized by its tech mogul owner in collaboration with L.A.-based architects Woods + Dangaran. The pricey listing is held by Aaron Kirman of Compass.

Located high in the Bel Air hills at 10721 Stradella Court, the house is owned by George Ruan, cofounder of popular coupon-clipping browser extension Honey. In 2020, Honey was sold to PayPal in a $4 billion deal, the largest acquisition of a tech company in L.A. history.

Ruan paid $60 million for the house in March 2020, back when it was still under construction. The 43-year-old subsequently spent another undoubtedly large – but unspecified – amount of money to complete the unfinished estate and add an array of decidedly bespoke customizations to the place. Whether buyers believe those customizations and two years of hard work justify the 150% price jump remains to be seen.

Of course, the contemporary mansion is stunning and will wow guests for many years to come. The 1.1-acre lot offers 360-degree views of Los Angeles, with the occasionally-snowcapped mountains, DTLA skyline, Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island visible on most days. Altogether, the blocky and concrete-clad house offers more than 20,000 square feet of living space, with nine bedrooms and 14 baths.

Some of the gated estate’s more notable features include an attached staff wing with bedrooms for live-in help, plus a detached guesthouse with a bedroom and its own plunge pool. The main mansion has an infinity-edged pool, naturally, and there are Japanese dipping pools in the home’s wellness-oriented lower level, which also offers a gym and massage facilities.

A striking kitchen is slathered in exotic marble and flaunts Gaggenau and Miele appliances, while the dining room has pivot wooden slat doors that seal the place off from other areas of the home. Also on the premises are a movie theater, library, and various sitting rooms.

Despite the astronomical asking price, the current offering does not include the tennis court estate immediately next door, which Ruan also owns. (He bought that place in summer 2020, paying $18 million.) But it seems likely that the coupon kingpin could be convinced to throw that place into the deal — for an extra price.

The last time a Bel Air home transferred for a nine-figure sum was back in March, when Fashion Nova’s Richard Saghian forked out $126 million for The One, a still-unfinished monster mansion that’s now been in the works for a full decade. In December 2021, Coinbase billionaire Brian Armstrong shelled out $133 million for a Bel Air estate with two large homes and extensive grounds.
