Renovated Mid-Century Modern House in San Francisco Lists for $10 Million

A Mid-Century Modern house in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood that was restored and expanded in 2015 has come on the market for $9.995 million.

Built in 1948 by architect F.J. McCarthy, the house sits on a double lot near the top of Potrero Hill’s coveted North Slope and boasts views of the city skyline, according to the listing with Gregg Lynn of Sotheby’s International Realty—San Francisco Brokerage, posted earlier this week.

The home’s interior space, spanning approximately 3,000 square feet, is divided into three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a dining room, a kitchen and a media room. Designed for indoor-outdoor living, the home also features walls of glass, gardens, terraces with a hot tub, an infrared sauna and a two-car garage with charging stations, according to the listing.

“In a city renowned for its Victorian architecture, it’s rare to find a classic expression of mid-century design delineated by large walls of glass and where every room has an adjoining private outdoor terrace to revel in views of the iconic San Francisco skyline,” Mr. Lynn said.

The home underwent a gut renovation in 2015 by serrao design/architecture, a firm founded in San Francisco and now based in Sacramento, California.

“To preserve its timeless design elements, no expense was spared in the recent modernization of the historic home to prepare it for its second half-century,” Mr. Lynn said.

The current owner, a limited liability company, bought the house in 2015 for $9.5 million, property records show.
