The governor’s office said the proposed relief package would help reduce property taxes for homeowners by an average of $274 in 2023 on a $500,000 home.
DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis (D) led an announcement Monday on legislative efforts being taken to reduce property taxes in Colorado.
Polis announced a property tax relief package that proposes providing $700 million in property tax relief over two years for Colorado homeowners and businesses.
The governor’s office said the move would help families remain in the neighborhoods they’ve lived in for decades while reducing costs for businesses statewide.
“I want to make sure we leave no stone unturned to ensure Coloradans can hold on to more of their hard-earned money,” Polis said. “This property tax relief builds on our work to save people money including healthcare savings, free preschool, and sending out $400 rebates as quickly as possible.”
Combined with property tax reductions passed last year, the relief package would help save homeowners an average of $274 in 2023 on a $500,000 home, according to Polis.
The bill is intended to keep a competing measure off the the ballot in November.
