Lakefront Riverhead cottage with low taxes lists for $399,000

A two-bedroom waterfront cottage on Wildwood Lake in Riverhead with annual taxes of $3,197 is on the market for $399,000.

The 800-square-foot, one-bathroom house on Lake Avenue sits on more than one-third of an acre, fronting the lake, a prime spot for swimming, fishing, paddleboarding and boating, the listing agent said.

Built in 1953, the home has an open concept kitchen and living room, a wooden deck, as well as a full, partially finished basement being used as a gym, with a mechanical/utilities area and laundry room.

The cottage has natural gas and forced air and is in a picturesque natural setting with plenty of privacy and parking.

“It’s got good bones and a new roof,” said listing agent Gigi Martinez of Coldwell Banker M&D Good Life who is representing the seller along with agent Jesse Stein.

No flood insurance is required, and while there’s no dock, one can be added for a non-gas boat, Martinez said.

The house is zoned for the Riverhead Central School District.

While there are many houses behind the lake, this house is one of only five waterfront houses, Martinez noted.

“It’s a cottage,” she said, so there aren’t many amenities but “it’s the lowest priced anything in that entire area. It is waterfront, and you’re on the lake.”
