GO 111 lifted, 6 pvt varsities cleared in Telangana Cabinet’s key decisions

Hyderabad: The State Cabinet has taken a few key decisions, including withdrawal of GO 111, recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in universities, permitting five private universities in the State, approving appointment of medical college professors as Director and Additional Direction Medical Education.

GOMS 111:

Considering the long-pending appeals of land owners on humanitarian grounds, the Cabinet has decided to revoke GO 111. This would pave way for more development in the 83 villages of seven mandals in Vikarabad and Ranga Reddy districts. The GO 111 was issued in 1996, when the city’s drinking water requirements were met through the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar to prevent pollution due to heavy construction activities and industrialization.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said a committee headed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar was constituted to look into the scrapping of GOMS 111. The Committee would involve officials from MAUD, forest and other related departments and would work as per the pollution control board guidelines.

With GO 111 to be lifted, instructions have been issued to ensure there was no pollution in Rivers Musi and Esa, besides the two reservoirs Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar and declaration of Green Zones. A master plan would also be prepared, he said while addressing media persons here on Tuesday. Already, synchronization works of twin reservoirs with Kaleshwaram project were being taken up. In addition to these works prevention of pollution in twin reservoirs was being accorded top priority and development of alternate network for preventing flow of murky water into the reservoirs is being planned.

Chennuru Lift Irrigation Scheme:

The cabinet cleared a proposal for taking up Chennuru Lift Irrigation Scheme, to provide irrigation and drinking water to 103 villages in Chennuru Assembly constituency. The State Government has also sanctioned Rs1,658 crore for the scheme under which 10 TMC of River Godavari water would be utilised from Kaleshwaram project.

Apart from drinking water, the scheme would aid in providing irrigation faciliteis to 90,000 acres. From Parvati Barrage water would be supplied to 25,423 acres in Jaipur and Mandamarri mandals and around 43,208 acres would be irrigated in Chennur, Bhimaram and Kotapally mandals from Saraswati barrage. The water would be supplied to 16,370 acres in Kotapally mandal uner Laxmi Barrage.
Teaching and non-teaching staff recruitment in universities:

The Chief Minister said about 3500 teaching and non-teaching staff in various universities would be recruited across the State. A Common Recruitment Board would be set up under the aegis of education department and the recruitment exercise would be taken up, he explained, adding that setting up Women University was also approved.

Palle and Pattana Pragathi drive: The State Government would taking up Palle and Pattana Pragathi drive May 20 to June 5 as it was necessary to take up these programmes before the commencement of monsoon.

Six private universities: The Chief Minister announced that the cabinet has cleared the proposal for setting up six private universities, including one agricultural university. The Cabinet had in principle approved these decisions and the respective Ministers would be issuing necessary orders in this regard, he said. Among the six universities were Cauvery Agricultural University, Amity, Confederation of Indian Industry, Guru Nanak, NICMAR and MNR Universities, he said.

Additional Runway at Shamshabad Airport: With Hyderabad becoming the fourth largest airport in the country, instructions have been issued to GMR authorities to establish a second runway at the airport. This would be coming on the north side of the existing terminal in the airport, he said.
