Tiny Cabinet Put to Good Use by Cat in Video Viewed More Than 3M Times

While homeowners take the time to renovate their living spaces, one woman’s viral video showing the tiny cabinet that her cat made his own led her to renovate the space.

Emma Waters posted the video, which was viewed more than 3 million times, to the TikTok account @kuzcopluscleo. Viewers chimed in and shared their opinions on how the space could be decorated, and Waters shared a follow-up video that showed the updated cabinet.

Cats seeking out smaller spaces is common, and a piece published by Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital discussed why they may feel comfortable in them.

“Your cat will especially like small spaces that have at least three sides, as these will be very inviting places to crawl into where they can make themselves at home,” the piece stated.

Additionally, curling up in a small space is much warmer for cats.

“Curling up within a box makes them feel snug and cozy,” the animal hospital reported.

“When we first moved into this house, we didn’t know what to put in this awkward-sized cabinet,” Waters said as she opened a small cabinet door next to the top of the refrigerator in her video.

The next shot showed her cat, Kuzco, quickly scurrying into the space.

Waters told Newsweek she lived in the house for about three years, and the cabinet was empty the entire time.

She said Kuzco always sat on the top of the fridge. One day, her husband wanted to see what Kuzco would do if he opened the cabinet door.

“Kuzco walked right in, laid down and took a long cat nap,” Waters said. “He’s loved the space ever since.”

In addition to the cabinet, Waters said Kuzco is a fan of all small spaces. Although he is a larger cat, weighing in at 18 pounds, she said he manages to fit in many small spaces.

It wasn’t until the video went viral that Waters decided to do some renovations.

In an updated video, she shared what the new space looked like.

On the front of the door is a sign her mother painted that reads “Kuzco’s Korner.” Her husband also created LED cloud lights and added a blanket to line the bottom of the cabinet.

“There were so many ideas posted in the comments that my husband and I knew we needed to do something,” Waters said. “Plus, Kuzco deserves the best.”

In addition to the sign and the lights, viewers offered other suggestions for the space.

“I’d put a cat door opening through the cabinet through the wall to the other room and a shelf or something,” @mematte20 offered.

Another said they can carpet all the walls in the cabinet.

Waters said she was surprised to learn that the video went viral.

“I just wanted to share a unique video of my cute cat to hopefully bring joy to others,” she explained. “It’s been so much fun reading the comments and renovating the cabinet.”
