Marle Hall hits auction block for less than 1BR London apartment

It’s a Wales of a deal.

Marle Hall, a historic three-story, 15-bedroom Georgian mansion in rural North Wales, is on the auction block for the equivalent of just $530,000 – less than the price of the most humble home in London, where a 1-bedroom flat sets buyers back about $600,000.

But wait, there’s more than just a trophy mansion.

The hillside estate comes with 3.6 acres of land, a cottage and other outbuildings, plus beautiful views of the Welsh countryside, WalesOnline reports.

The home also enjoys a Grade II listing, a designation accorded properties in the UK of “special interest, warranting every effort to preserve it,” according to real estate conglomerate Bidwells.

The manor, about 50 miles west of Liverpool, was reportedly built in 1661, with much of it destroyed by fire in the mid-1700s.

The estate has served many purposes over the years. The local city council purchased the property in 1971 and operated it as an outdoor learning center for schoolchildren, the report states.

The city council closed the center in October amid COVID-19 restrictions, despite protests and a 7,000-signature strong petition in support of keeping it open.

The interior of Marle Hall includes a treasure chest of Tudor-inspired features, including a grand entrance hall, exposed ceiling beams, stone fireplace, stained-glass windows and carved stone archway.
