American Airlines ground crew worker killed at Montgomery airport


An American Airlines ground crew worker was killed today at the Montgomery Regional Airport, the airport said.

“Today around 3 pm an American Airlines ground crew piedmont employee was involved in a fatality, no additional information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased,” the tweet read.

The airport released a statement about 7:45 p.m.

“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines,” said Wade A. Davis, Executive Director of MGM.

The airport resumed normal operations as of 8:30 p.m. this evening, the airport tweeted.

“The FAA investigation of Piedmonts tragic accident continues,” the tweet stated.

“We are devastated by the accident involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines regional carrier, at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM). Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time,” a spokesperson for American Airlines said.

Piedmont Airlines is working alongside NTSB, FAA and local law enforcement as the incident is investigated.

American Airlines did not provide additional information due to the active investigation.

The “worker was fatally injured on the ramp at Montgomery Regional Airport where American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked,” the FAA said in a statement to AL.com.

More information will be available when the FAA posts a preliminary report on the next business day, the FAA statement continued.
