Architectural Los Angeles Home With Designer Pedigree Lists for $13 Million

An angular, contemporary Los Angeles mansion that got a makeover from fashion designer Randolph Duke in the mid-aughts has hit the market for $13 million.

Located in the Hollywood Hills, the gated 4,580-square-foot home boasts walls of glass, with 10-foot automatic glass doors in the main room that slide open to the outside, according to the listing with Bruno Abisror and Joseph Cilic of Sotheby’s International Realty’s Pacific Palisades Brokerage.

“Unlike many contemporary homes that are more box-like, this home stuns with angled lines, creating a dreamy view whether looking toward the home or toward the city and ocean beyond,” Mr. Abisror said in an email. “Most homes with views like this are set far higher in the hills and present a much more challenging commute, whereas the [this] house is convenient and private.”

In true California style, there’s outdoor space on every level, including an upper patio with a fireplace and a wide deck next to the pool and spa, according to the listing.

The main level also has hardwood floors, built-in shelving and a two-sided fireplace, the listing said. There’s also an open dining area and a kitchen with custom cabinetry and an outdoor breakfast nook.

The residence has three en-suite bedrooms, plus a powder room, according to the listing.

“Each of the three levels has an ideally positioned bedroom to take in the jetliner views through floor-to-ceiling glass doors that pocket into the walls,” Mr. Abisror continued.

The upper deck seems to float above the Hollywood Hills home.

The primary suite boasts two fireplaces, private outdoor space, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom with two vanities, a soaking tub and access to a planted outdoor area.

Originally built in 1949, the home was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest in 2007, just after then-owner Mr. Duke had helmed a complete renovation of the property. L.A.-based firm XTEN Architecture was behind the redesign—“a large first-floor platform that would cantilever out over the hillside and also embed itself into the hill. And then this second story just sort of floating over that,” Austin Kelly, a principal in the firm, said in the article.

Mr. Duke, 64, is known for his body-hugging dresses donned by celebrities in the late 1990s, as well as his more affordable designs sold under The Look on the Home Shopping Network. Representatives for the designer did not immediately return a request for comment.

Mr. Duke sold the home in 2009 for $5.3 million, which was the last it traded. The current owner of the home was not available for comment.
