United States’s mining industry IT recruitment activity drops 4.9% in September 2022


The US’s mining industry registered a 4.9% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.76% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.14% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 0.09% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95.12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s mining industry in September 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 35.37% in September 2022, registering a 29.27% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 25.61% share, a decrease of 41.67% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 17.07%, registering a flat growth from August 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 9.76%, up 33.33% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 41.07% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s mining industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

Aditya Birla Management Corp posted 9 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a drop of 25% over the previous month, followed by RTI International Metals with 9 jobs and a 10% drop. Nucor with 5 IT jobs and Teck Coal with 5 jobs, recorded a 66.67% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Freeport-McMoRan recorded a decline of 73.68% with 5 job postings during September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 54.88%, down by 27.42% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 23.17% share, registered a decline of 38.71% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 21.95% share, flat growth over August 2022.
