A major manufacturer of kitchen and bathroom cabinets plans to establish a new production facility in eastern Alabama, local government officials said. Ashland, Alabama-based Wellborn Cabinet will invest $17 million to expand to an industrial park in nearby Oxford, Alabama, according to the Calhoun Journal.

The new site will enable the production of a new kitchen and bath product line, Calhoun County economic development leaders told the paper.

The company is set to receive an incentive package to support the expansion, but financial details were not disclosed. The Talladega County Commission approved an abatement as part of those incentives, which must still be endorsed by Oxford officials and the state.

The project is expected to create 400 jobs over five years.

Calhoun County Economic Development Council Executive Director Don Hopper told the journal that the decision to locate in Ashland was made easier by the many-year relationship between the county and the city of Oxford.

Wellborn, founded in Ashland in 1961, now produces six product lines that include both framed and frameless cabinetry. The company is one of the largest cabinet makers in North America.
