Big Brothers Big Sisters program Wednesday
DOVER – To mark National Mentoring Month, the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., will host a program titled Big Brothers Big Sister of East Central Ohio FAQ.
Beverly Pearch, president and CEO of the organization, and Dan Warther, owner of Warther Woodworking and a “Big Brother,” will be at the library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to share information regarding the programs provided to youth in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties, such as school and community-based mentoring, camp opportunities, individual assistance and resource connection.
They will present volunteer opportunities and ways to assist the agency.
Tapestries of Tuscarawas County to be unveiled
DOVER – A community reception for the unveiling of the latest edition of Tapestries of Tuscarawas County will be held in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., at 2 p.m. Saturday. Tapestries of Tuscarawas County is a literary and oral history journal published annually that features work by individuals with connections to Tuscarawas County.
“This is the fifth edition of the publication, and it is once again full of original work that paints a picture of Tuscarawas County,” said Kim Jurkovic, local history librarian. “Tuscarawas County contains a lot of hidden talent and we have people with inspirational stories to tell, whether that be in prose, poetry, or art.”
Contributing authors will be reading portions of their work at the event. The top writing submissions in three categories will be awarded a cash prize. Tapestries will be available for purchase at the reception for $5.

Learn about cryptocurrency
DOVER – Noah Dunn, senior security automation engineer for Palo Alto Networks, will teach the fundamentals of cryptocurrency in layman’s terms at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Community Room at the Dover Library, 525 N. Walnut St.
After providing a brief history of Bitcoin, Dunn will share how to buy and sell cryptocurrency. He will also share stories from the public domain, as well as from personal experience. A question-and-answer session will follow.
Dunn is a 2017 graduate of Dover High School and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Miami University.

Zeisberger Heckewelder Award nominations sought
NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County Historical Society is looking for nominations for its annual Zeisberger Heckewelder Award.
The award is given each year to up to four individuals and an organization who have made significant contributions to Tuscarawas County, making it a better place to live, especially in the preservation of its history. According to the award guidelines, the nominee must be a resident of or be located in Tuscarawas County. Current public officeholders are not eligible. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1.
The Tuscarawas County Historical Society first presented the award in 1981. Winners will be announced in April and the awards presented at the Tuscarawas County Historical Society’s annual Founders Day Banquet in May.
Nominations must be made in writing and include the nominee’s name, address, and phone number; the nominator’s name, address and phone number; a written explanation of why the nominee should be considered; a list of any leadership roles the applicant has held in Tuscarawas County; and any supporting documents (newspaper articles, letters of support, etc.) for the nomination.

Scholarships available
The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program, along with the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation is accepting applications for the 2023 scholarship program.
Students interested in pursuing careers in the natural gas and oil industry can qualify for a $1,000 scholarship. Applications will be accepted through March 1.
Scholarships are awarded to Ohio students interested in pursuing careers such as petroleum engineer, finance, equipment operator, mechanical engineer, welder and many other positions. The scholarship can be used to attend an accredited college, university, technical or trade school. The student must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
Since 2007, the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program, a nonprofit statewide education and public outreach program, has awarded 599 scholarships to students pursuing careers in the natural gas and oil industry. To apply, visit http://www.oogeep.org/teacher-students/scholarships/.
