Siesta Key home hits market at $22 million, tops in Sarasota-Manatee

A Siesta Key waterfront estate has been listed for $22 million taking over the top spot as the most expensive property for sale in Sarasota and Manatee counties so far in 2023, according to Stellar MLS data.

The 1.4-acre property at 3799 Flamingo Ave. on Siesta Key’s northern end has 18,706 square feet of air conditioned space, 700 feet of water frontage and a boat dock on the Intracoastal Waterway, according to the Realtor marketing the property.

“An island paradise, it also offers a rare opportunity to own in one of Sarasota’s most coveted enclaves near the city’s best shopping, dining and world-renowned attractions,” said Joel Schemmel, with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.

The house was built in 2017 with the property last selling for $10.5 million in October 2019.

If the Siesta Key property sells for the asking price, the sale would be a record breaker in Sarasota for a single-family home. Last year, a Harbor Acres home that included two residential lots on the bayfront sold for a record $17.5 million, according to MLS data.

While the Sarasota real estate market has seen declining closed sales, real estate prices have stayed stubbornly high as the number of homes for sale remains comparatively low, according statistics maintained by the Realtors Association of Sarasota and Manatee.

There were 49 properties in Sarasota and Manatee counties for sale for more than $10 million in the middle of January, including a house at 150 Morningside Drive in Lido Shores that was once highlighted by Herald-Tribune real estate editor Harold Bubil.

“A fantasy of colors and curves, the 6,800-square-foot Chapell Residence was designed by Don Chapell as a home for his family,” Bubil wrote in 2016 in a series focusing on his favorite Florida buildings. “But the architect died during construction in 1999. His widow, Heather, finished the house with the help of contractor Pat Ball and interior designer Wilson Stiles.”

That property was listed this week for $10 million.
